Investing in new industries

We want Queensland to be recognised as a leader in renewable energy, creating new opportunities and jobs as the world moves to clean energy.

We are investing $200 million in the Regional Economic Futures Fund, a new program to support regional communities to use their existing strengths to provide the materials, products and services needed as we transition to renewable energy. It is part of our strategy to develop new industries from the opportunities presented by increasing demand for cleaner, greener, and more responsibly sourced products.

North West Queensland is a priority region for funding

The regions being funded are those with unique opportunities to support new industries like critical minerals, renewable energy, hydrogen and biofuels. We are also supporting communities that rely on traditional energy production for jobs and economic growth.

North West Queensland has long been a significant contributor to Queensland's economic growth. It is rich in the critical minerals needed in batteries, technology and renewable energy, with an established transport corridor to ports for export markets. It also has a strong beef and agricultural sector.

Thank you for your input

Consultation closed on 30 October 2023.

It is anticipated that the regional transformation strategy and implementation plan will be drafted and ready to be implemented in early 2024.
