Roadwork activity
Following a State Government announcement in August 2020, works have commenced onsite to begin improved access to the Northshore riverfront, a core component of delivering a destination for innovation, enterprise and creativity. The Stage 1 Waterfront Development will include a collection of unique fit-for-purpose interim spaces that embrace the area’s port heritage. These spaces will include a facility for the creative arts, a containerised community for scale-up innovation and ecommerce enterprises with a central riverfront parkland.
Over the coming months visitors to Northshore will see earthwork activity, with some building upgrades and new build scheduled for later in 2021.
If you have any additional queries please use the Q&A function on this Have Your Say page and a project team member will be happy to respond.
Please note that from 1 February 2021, the Hercules Street Park playground will be under maintenance and require part closure for approximately three weeks. In an effort to leave some play options open, the improvements to the rubber soft fall zones will be completed in sections. Please note the areas under maintenance and supervise children to ensure safe play. We apologise for the inconvenience, and look forward to completing this enhancement to the popular Hercules Street playground.
Please see the latest construction update about upcoming footpath improvement works along sections of Hercules Street, Habour Road, Remora Road and MacArthur Avenue at Northshore.
Please be advised that the Hercules Street Park playground at the western end of Northshore will be temporarily closed for minor improvement works from the 24 August to 8 September 2020.
These dates are subject to change pending construction completion but all efforts will be made to complete works before popular use over the school holidays.
Some preliminary works for foundations of the playground improvements will begin this week. These works will largely be conducted in garden beds adjacent to the water play zone, and have minimal impact on use of the park and playground until 24 August. At certain times there will be closures of the small car park to the west of the playground to accommodate construction vehicles and equipment.
Alternative parking can be located at: 92 MacArthur Avenue
These works are being conducted in response to community feedback requesting additional shade, and observations of misuse of play equipment with some choosing to climb on top of the playground structure.
Once improvements have been made, visitors to the park will enjoy increased shade zones and safety ready for the summer months ahead.
With Hercules Street Park now complete, dog fun can now be found in the off leash area of Hercules Street Park.
The Wharf Close Pop-up space has always been intended to provide temporary activity that will appeal to a wide variety of interests and ages.
During COVID-19 restrictions we closed the park and will re-open with new activities and programs suited to the Pop-up space.
Be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page for new installations in the space, as restrictions ease.
The personal safety of our residents and visitors remains our highest priority. As such, park equipment, playgrounds, BBQ’s and dog parks within Northshore are closed in precaution against transmission of Coronavirus.
This applies to Wharf Close Pop up park and Hercules Street Park. Please visit the Brisbane City Council website for park updates.

The upgraded Hercules Street Park opened on 20 December 2019 and has been heavily patronised by the community. To date EDQ has received a lot of positive feedback about the park and the quality of the features provided. We have also received useful suggestions from the community on additional features that could be implemented around the playground. The key items of feedback were:
EDQ has taken these suggestions on board and is in the process of implementing the following enhancements:
These works are expected to be completed by late March 2020 (due to delays from wet weather).
Whilst the works are being undertaken some closures of the playground and surrounding areas of the park will be required. Signage will be installed prior to the closures.
We thank you for your patience during the construction of the park and again whilst we make these enhancements to the playground.
In the meantime, if you have any questions about the project please visit the project's Have Your Say website at https://haveyoursay.dsdmip.qld.gov.au/northshore and click on the Q&A link to ask the project team a question.
