Consultation has concluded

Queensland’s planning framework plays an important role in assisting the state’s economic recovery.

The release of the Queensland Economic Recovery Plan on 20 August 2020, outlined the key areas of focus in our recovery planning including, supporting small business, ensuring we deliver a workforce with the right skills for the growing and changing economy and creating a competitive environment for private sector investment.

The Queensland Government is committed to ensuring that Queensland’s planning framework assists in economic recovery by exemplifying leading practice and providing support and flexibility to businesses and industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are taking steps to help businesses and industry by reducing red tape and simplifying planning processes, so Queensland can get back on its feet quickly, as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. One step to deliver on this is to implement a suite of planning law changes to ease the economic burden and fast-track critical supplies needed in the community.

We consulted on proposed changes to the Development Assessment Rules (DA Rules), Minister’s Guidelines and Rules (MGR) and the Planning Regulation 2017 in July 2020.

Feedback from businesses, local government and the community on the proposed changes assisted us to introduce planning initiatives to support Queensland to Unite and Recover.
