North Queensland Regional Plan

The North Queensland Regional Plan has been finalised and will come into effect in March 2020.

The plan provides a 25-year framework to guide growth and support future jobs in North Queensland.

This is long-term plan for the region that:

  • is backed by a strong economic focus
  • provides the blueprint for ensuring the north Queensland region grows in a sustainable way
  • supports a dynamic economy by creating jobs, boosting investment and nurturing tourism and lifestyle opportunities
  • identifies significant industry development opportunities which will be key to future success.

You can also read an overview of the plan which includes five initial catalytic projects that have been identified including renewable hydrogen, defence, agribusiness, advanced manufacturing and tourism.

The plan includes the local government areas of Burdekin, Charters Towers, Hinchinbrook, Palm Island and Townsville.
