The entry to Dock C Car Park will be temporarily changed from Tuesday, 7 May, until Friday, 10 May (weather permitting).

During this period, vehicles must enter Dock C via Bincote Street and Maritime Green (one-way). The usual exit through the driveway off MacArthur Avenue remains unchanged.

This temporary access change is necessary to install a sewer connection to the Wheelhouse.

Access to all Northshore Brisbane businesses will be maintained throughout this time.

The Dock A Car Park at 92 MacArthur Avenue will remain open until mid-2024. It will then be permanently closed to allow for construction on the Northshore Brisbane road upgrade and enhancement program.

EDQ will provide an email update and signage one week ahead of the exact closure date.

Car parking changes from April 2024

From April 2024, car parking changes will occur at Northshore Brisbane for a large-scale activation and to prepare for the early works for the roads and enhancement project.

Precinct parking remains available in Docks B, C, and D (with reduced spaces in Dock D). Economic Development Queensland will also create additional parking in Dock A Car Park South, which is expected to be available by mid-2024.

Below are the car parking changes, and please see the map for location details.

Dock D: Reduced car parking spaces (April 2024 - December 2026)

Car parking spaces will be reduced to allow for a large activation. EV chargers will remain accessible until further notice. More details on the activation will be provided soon.

Dock A: Car park closure (mid-2024) - one week's notice will be provided ahead of the closure

From mid-2024, the Dock A Car Park at 92 MacArthur Avenue will permanently close to allow for the start of construction works on the Northshore Brisbane road upgrade and enhancement program. One week's notice will be provided ahead of the closure via an email update and signage.

Dock A Car Park – south: New car parking spaces available (mid-2024)

Additional parking spaces will be created on the southern side of Dock A on MacArthur Avenue and available by mid-2024 to assist with precinct parking needs.

About the Northshore Brisbane road upgrade and enhancement program

Economic Development Queensland is delivering a road upgrade and enhancement program, accelerating the delivery and upgrade of approximately 8 kilometres of roads, bringing 20 years of work into a 6-year program. Contractors at Northshore Brisbane recently detected fire ants onsite. A report was made to Biosecurity Queensland and they will treat the affected areas.

The areas highlighted in the map below are the locations where fire ants have been sighted. This is preliminary advice as the impacted area could be more extensive.

We ask you to:

• stay on concrete footpaths and watch your step
• keep off the grass
• if you see an ant mound, avoid it – do not disturb mounds
• report fire ants if seen at a location not highlighting on the map.

Construction has begun on The Wheelhouse, a new coworking space at Northshore Brisbane. First Nations business Bridgeman has been awarded the construction contract.

The new warehouse-style building will provide a unique coworking space with 1,172 sqm of floor space split over two levels. It will include office spaces and hot desks for up to 170 workers, a grandstand seating communal area, a boardroom and two meeting rooms.

The Wheelhouse’s dynamic environment is designed to be an innovation incubator for start-up and scale-up businesses. It offers flexible rental spaces and a vibrant atmosphere for creativity and collaboration.

Bridgeman is a Queensland small-medium enterprise and a Supply Nation-certified Indigenous company. For The Wheelhouse, they will engage 100% with local contractors, manufacturers and supply chains. Bridgeman pre-qualifies capable and reliable First Nations businesses and actively encourages non-First Nations businesses to include First Nations businesses in their supply chains. They also support a range of social initiatives that provide training opportunities for First Nations people.

Temporary fencing has been erected around the site adjacent to Eat Street, and work is now underway. The building’s construction is expected to be completed in October 2024, with The Wheelhouse operational in early 2025.

Project vehicles and trucks will enter and exit the site via the specified driveway adjoining MacArthur Avenue. Some contractor parking may be outside the fenced area, but only during construction working hours.

Working hours are Monday to Thursday, 6:30 am to 6:30 pm, Friday and Saturday, 6:30 am to 3 pm.

About the Northshore Roads Program

The Northshore Roads Program will be delivered over six years and, on completion, will provide:

• Approximately 8 kilometres of new and upgraded roads to improve connections across the precinct and create neighbourhood streetscapes.
• Improved access to Kingsford Smith Drive with a new road connection that provides signalised two-way access.
• Extensive landscaping with approximately 1,000 new trees and thousands of shrubs planted across the precinct to create cooler streets and promote walking, cycling, and e-mobility.
• Access for all with universal design as a key principle and wider than standard verges, increasing comfort and safety for everyone.
• Improved flood immunity through raising roads and upgrading drainage.
• Provision of approximately 300 on-street car parks and EV charging facilities.
• Separated cyclist and pedestrian facilities on major new streets and reduced speed cycling streets are proposed for minor streets.

The staging of the delivery of the roads is not confirmed, and this is indicative only. On completion of the road designs and once a contractor is appointed, the staging will be finalised, and an update will be sent to the community.

Further updates will be provided when the design and staging for the Northshore Roads Program are finalised in Q1 2024.

Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) is bringing forward 20 years of roads and infrastructure for delivery over the next six years, paving the way for delivering the Brisbane Athlete Village. The village will host thousands of athletes and officials during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and become permanent homes after.

The Northshore team is keen to share information about the planned Road Program and offer insights. There are several ways to get involved, including:

1. Nominate to join a roundtable discussion (Wednesday, 6 December): Learn more about the Road Program design through briefings and discussions with our Northshore technical team. Limited spaces are available at these in-person sessions and representatives will be selected from across the precinct—nominations close on Friday, 1 December.
2. Book a time to meet the team: Speak directly with an EDQ Northshore representative and view the draft Roads Program design plans and outcomes of technical assessments. Sessions are available on Wednesday 29 November 2023 (5pm to 7pm) and Friday 1 December 2023 (8am to 10am).
3. Complete an online survey and register for updates: Register for updates on the Have Your Say Northshore website and take a quick survey to voice your interests and priorities for the precinct. Survey closes 5pm, 18 December 2024.

We will keep you updated as the Northshore Road Program design progresses and the staging of works is finalised for 2024.

Roadworks: MacArthur Avenue Sewer Construction

We wish to advise of some upcoming roadworks along MacArthur Avenue South, see attached plans.

What will the infrastructure works involve?

In order to cater for the future growth and development of the area it has become necessary to carry out roadworks to upgrade underground services. The works will involve;

• Installation of new sewer pipeline and manholes along MacArthur Avenue.
• Road demolition and reinstatement.
• Verge demolition and reinstatement.

When will these changes take effect?

Low impact preliminary works will commence on Monday 27th March including tree removal, service location and site establishment.

Construction works including changed traffic arrangements will commence on Tuesday 11th April. The works are scheduled for completion in July, weather dependant.

What are the impacts of the works?

Low Impact Preliminary Works (27th March):

• Material and equipment deliveries within verge
• Tree removal within verge (may include minor traffic management, no closures or detours)
• Service location within verge
• Site Establishment including demountable buildings, storage containers & fencing.

Construction Works including Changes to Traffic Arrangement (11th April):

• Changed traffic conditions - Eastbound traffic on MacArthur Avenue will be diverterted onto the Southern side of the road between the cross roads of Theodore St and Cedar Rd. Refer to attached plan for more details.
• Vibration - excavation and compaction equipment may cause vibrations during working hours.
• Noise - construction equipment and pumps may cause noise within the vicinity of the works during working hours.
• Maximum Working Hours are Monday-Saturday 6.00am - 6.00pm. Prior notice will be provided should works need to occur outside of these hours.

We would like to thank residents and road users in the area for their patience and understanding while this important project progresses.

In August 2022 we shared the news that four of the nine warehouses in the former Qube Ports precinct – Sheds H, J, M, N – would need to be removed due to structural and safely reasons. These works are well underway and will be finished by January 2023.

We have since completed further investigations on Sheds F, G and W. Whilst we were hopeful these warehouses may be able to be kept and repurposed, it is apparent that these warehouses are also structurally unsound and cannot reasonably be retained or repurposed. Removal of these warehouses will therefore be complete by March 2023.

Whilst we hadn’t expected to be removing Sheds F, G and W, the area created provides further opportunities for interim activation and greater public access to the waterfront, extending from Maritime Green. This supports our strategy of opening up and activating the waterfront ahead of permanent development.

EDQ is working with urban designers to develop a masterplan to deliver new interim community and retail spaces for the area. Construction will be completed in stages starting in early 2023. It is expected the public will have access from late 2023 (pending weather conditions and material availability).

We will provide details about new tenants and exciting activations along the waterfront from mid-2023.

Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) has been aware, from discussions with residents and businesses in and around MacArthur Avenue, that the parking of trucks and heavy vehicles and associated trailers during the day and overnight is having a detrimental impact on the quality of the local environment.

Following the end of Port of Brisbane activities on MacArthur Avenue in 2021, EDQ has been working with Brisbane City Council and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) to manage the impacts of heavy vehicles in this area. The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator is the statutory authority administering the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).

We are pleased to announce that the NHVR has approved an application to restrict heavy vehicles from parking, marshalling, or queueing anywhere along MacArthur Avenue and Bincote Street within Northshore.

Effective immediately, heavy vehicles will now only be allowed to travel along these roads.

Enforcement of these restrictions will be the responsibility of Brisbane City Council.

EDQ hopes these measures will improve the user experience for residents, occupiers, and visitors alike as we continue to transform Northshore into a sustainable sub-tropical lifestyle precinct.
